Hematite or Haematite is the mineral form of iron oxide. The name Hematite is derived from the Greek word for blood since raw Hematite can be red. When cut and polished Hematite displays a bright metallic lustre making it popular for use in semi precious jewellery. Hematite is widespread with deposits in the Lake District UK.
